A couple of days ago, CRI Jin7 posted a wonderful article about how to paint Mount Fuji, Japan. I was very intriged by the article, the beauty of the mountain (I'm VERY into mountains!) and the simplicity of the painting. This was just what the doctor ordered after an over two weeks of dry motivation. The painting really got me in the mood from the first minute and I regained my lost confidence in oil painting.
Canvas used was a quality 12"x12". Nothing was really difficult in this painting so I was VERY happy to avoid any stress about that! The drawing with charcoal is not really necessary but very helpful, so this was my first attempt to try charcoal and with success. I chose a square canvas since I was convinced the mountain would appear more prominent on it AND it was easier to apply those cherry blossoms everywhere I wanted them. I was VERY happy I got the colours right at all times, specially with the blossoms which was not too hard from me since I happen to have such Japanese tree in my back garden!
Both daughter (the better artist!) and missus were convinced this was a true beauty so .... I am happy that I can share this with you but specially I am very grateful to Jin7 for inviting us to try this Japanese gem.
It also brings attention to the importance and variety of several articles of our community members that can use your reading, viewing and support. Please enjoy, stay safe and till next one!
Jin, thanks for liking this!!
you are right, I thought the right side was higher (looked up some pictures on the internet) but my eyes disseived me. Both sides are about equal.
…. it's still a great mountain though! :) :) :)
This is so nice. I especially like the cherry blossoms. Perfect colours.
Thank you LJM. I must admit that I would have chosen harder colours myself yet I followed Jin in this and afterwards, that worked out for the best. This painting needs soft colouring and I was so pleased that with that result!
Till next one!
I agree this painting has a beautiful simplicity and you nailed it. Great colors and composition, and you Mt. Fuji is very convincing. Would bring serenity to any room I believe.
Dear T HUWhite, you are so right, the strength in this particular painting lies in its simplicity and I guess Jin7 meant it to be like this. The softness of colours was kept by me and you like wrote, it does indeed bring serenity to any room.
Wonderful comment, thank you so much!!

Dear Voy Kay I am very happy that you tried this .
And this is very beautiful . I would recommend adding the mountain base color to the left side of the mountain to make it up a little higher on the left side of the mountain and it will be much better. Good luck!
